We are currently seeking talented individuals to be a part of our product development team. Pelican Software (BC) Inc., is located on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia in the city of Nanaimo, though qualified candidates may be eligible to work remotely.

Pelican Software is currently in the process of redesigning one of our lead products for the digital memory book industry, and we are looking for developers to join this project team. This innovative product is being developed for some of the largest publishing companies in North America and beyond.

We are currently looking for the following individuals to join this product development team:

Position Title: Marketing Evangelist
Reports to: Director, Business Operations

Role Description 

The Marketing Evangelist takes a leadership role in all aspects of marketing for all Pelican Software's Publishing product lines. Marketing activities include planning, development and deployment of marketing campaigns, communications, trade shows & collateral materials. Research of market trends and product growth potential also expected. Research of competitors’ software for Marketing and Development recommendations. Work in conjunction with Sales Manager and team members to gather information and assess needs based on sales driven approach.

Responsibilities:

1.  Marketing Initiatives

• To lead in the development and deployment of marketing communications & campaigns (print and web) for major product launches - including web 2.0 best practices.
• To lead in the development and deployment of marketing communications & campaigns for major industry trades shows including managing logistical requirements such as bookings, travel arrangements, move in/move out logistics, trade show display, giveaways, and other related activities.
• Creation of project plan and adherence to internal and external financial and time Management deadlines
• Track expenses and provide necessary reporting to Director, Business Operations.
• Participation in meetings and planning sessions related to product development, positioning and strategic planning
• Serve as a point of contact for graphic artists, printing and others who may be involved in the production of Marketing Materials

2. Marketing Communication

• Development of Marketing Materials for the following: software applications, trade shows,  displays, packaging materials, advertisements for printed materials and online listings & advertisements ( includes creation of message, theme and concept , communication to the graphic artist for production)
• Maintenance of the company website: ensure content is updated, layout is effective, communication is accurate and sales objectives are achieved.
• Promotions: assist in the development of sales promotions, coordination of materials and development of promotional strategy including web 2.0 best practices
• Assist in the creation and deployment of external corporate communications
• Creation of a targeted communication strategy to prospective clients.  This may include direct mailers, email templates or brochures.

3.  Market Research

• Analyze current web 2.0 best practices and make specific recommendations for Publishing Division to capitalize on this trend.
• Develop, conduct & analyze customer survey information for main product lines.  Provide summary reports to team members. Develop other non survey methods to gather and analyze market and end user data.
• Research of New Markets: Geographically, Distribution Channels & Partners
• Competitor Analysis: Analyze marketing and business strategies, and products offered by competitors and make specific recommendations for Marketing and Development actions
• Industry Analysis: analyze new trends in the marketing industry as well as in the industries associated with Pelican’s products
• Research of new marketing techniques and opportunities that align with current products and will further assist to reach the target audience

Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of Web 2.0.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Experience with image editing and layout software (Photoshop, InDesign, etc).
• Proven leadership and management skills.
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.  Must be organized and detailed oriented.
• Should be able to demonstrate proactive and innovative approach to marketing

Qualifications:

• Business Degree specializing in Marketing
• 4-5 years professional experience employed as a Marketing Manager or equivalent
• Must have demonstrable experience with successful web 2.0 product launches.
• Must be able to demonstrate experience in all activities related to the above described position
• Must provide at least 3 stellar references

Position Title: Software Development Team Lead (Yearbooks Software)
Position Type: Contract to hire
Positions Available: 1

Role Description

Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations, the Software Development Lead will be actively involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from project planning and development through to sustainment.  The development lead will be the "owner" of the activities in development space, and will be accountable for the outcomes of their work, and the results of their team.
 
The candidate selected will work with business leads and product management to ensure that all marketing and sales requirements are considered and prioritized along with client requests in each product release.
 
The incumbent will conduct software project planning, analysis, documentation, development, unit testing, as well as coordinate their teams, and be responsible for the collection and documentation of business requirements throughout the year for future phase development projects and or Client Service Requests (CSRs).
 
Core Responsibilities

The Software Development Lead will be responsible for:
• Project leadership, coordination and management in development of new versions of the Yearbooks applications.
• Leading and actively participating in ongoing development of the Yearbooks software (all custom versions and new development projects).
• Bug fixing and issue management on each related project.

Required Experience

The Software Development Lead must have 3-5 years of multi-functional experience in the software development field.
• Experience in 4D programming, or ability to learn it through a strong background of other procedural languages. SQL skills desirable.
• Must be able to demonstrate a track record of fast turnaround of projects with minimal supervision and often with limited or incomplete data.

Education Requirements
 
Software Development Lead must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent combination of education and business experience.

Position Title: Software Tester-Quality Assurance
Position Type: Contract (16 weeks) with possibility of permanent hire
Positions Available: 1

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in advanced software testing (2 years) and testing methodology plus a degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional skills that are highly desired:

Ability to learn our software products quickly. Interest in both our Yearbooks applications (publishing) and our Tallys application (inventory management). Ability to bring your background in testing methodology to the table, and help advance the Pelican testing processes. An excellent communicator, the person filling this role will be adept at creating user guides and other documentation. Cross-platform knowledge (Linux, Mac OS, Windows) and a team player able to meet deadlines

Additional skills that would be helpful:

Quality Assurance experience, documentation or writing experience and graphic design experience (Adobe products, Macromedia products)

We are also seeking a motivated individual to join our technical and sales teams to help support our product - Tallys! This product is one of the leading inventory management systems used in the Oil Field Supply Industry.

Position Title: Technical Pre-Sales- Tally's Division
Position Type: Permanent
Positions Available: 1

We are also seeking a motivated individual to join our technical and sales teams to help support our product Tallys!  This product is one of the leading inventory management systems used in the Oil Field Supply Industry.

The ideal candidate for this position will have practical experience in technical support or technical pre-sales within a software environment. They must be able to professionally demonstrate and teach complicated procedures to non-technical prospect customers.

Additional Skills that are highly desired:

Intermediate knowledge of database applications, sales orientated, strong communication skills, organized, exposure to common enterprise software, and has knowledge of the Oil and Gas Industry in general. Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines. Must be able to travel within Canada & USA.

Additional Skills that would be helpful:

Any relevant experience with Inventory Control systems. Quality Assurance experience, experience using a CRM system, email writing skills, and experience with Microsoft Office and Macromedia products.
